JD: thanks so much for your help on this ... just a couple more
questions (I promise).

Yep. 3201..3231 are the default values. After that you add what you
want, making sure you leave no blanks.
The only problem is that the changes are not made permanent when using
the x-setting URL for either the default range or the custom range. I
verified by looking at the STR resource (STR# ID 3200). It's keeping
track of it somewhere, but it's not writing it out to the settings
file. However, if you do have Esoteric settings installed and you edit
the list it DOES write it out to the settings file. That's gotta be the
answer, but I can't figure out how to make it work.
I still don't understand why you should deprive your users of a
configuration tool that has been in Eudora since the very beginning,
but if you want to dictate which headers they should see and which
not, then create a plug-in and put it in Eudora Stuff/ or Plug-ins/.
Well, I do see the light now, but I'm trying to avoid having to install
the plug-in on 70 workstations at this point. I thought I could just
whip up a script to save me some time, but it's not looking possible at
this point -- unless I edit the resource directly.
