Locations of Desktop icons

  • Subject: Locations of Desktop icons

Dear list,

I'm using AppleScript to access the icon locations on the Mac OS X
desktop. The correct syntax used to be (in Classic):

the position of item "Example Folder" of desktop

When I run this in OS X, however, the positions are reported for items
in the Finder window for "Macintosh HD:Users:UserName:Desktop:", instead

of the actual desktop.

In other words, I still get icon positions, but they're not for the true

desktop. They're for positions in the Finder window.

How can I access the locations for items on the real Desktop? Is
there another way to refer to the desktop, or perhaps another way to
refer to
the position of desktop items?

I'm using X.2.3

Thank you,

Matt Duddy
