I don't know if this is *the* explanation, but it stands a decent chance of being it. ;)

In the old days there was an osiz resource for an entire osax and later for individual osaxen. It contains some meta information about the osax, such as whether it requires its resource file opened, whether it can be read-only or does it need read/write, as well as *whether it can run via remote events*.

This got added for security reasons once we started playing with "run script". It was off for certain commands. I can't recall which were disabled.

I can't seem to find an osiz resource anywhere, but I haven't managed to derez my standard additions properly yet, and it's bedtime again anyhow.

It sounds like "info for" is still disabled, or something.
