Do a man curl and use curl from "do shell script"
I constantly use ftp via terminal, but if you want "silence", curl is
the way to go.
It is also very fast.

I agree, curl is fantastic, but as far as I know, it won't let me delete a
file. Just to make sure I checked the man, but couldn't find anything about
deletion.

Am I missing something?

Hi Adim,
No, I missed something... namely the opportunity to post curl's web page: "http://curl.haxx.se";.
On the FAQ page you will find the following:

"3.7. Can I use curl to delete/rename a file through FTP?

Yes. You specify custom FTP commands with -Q/--quote.

One example would be to delete a file after you have downloaded it:

curl -O ftp://download.com/coolfile -Q '-DELE coolfile' "

Back and forth with the page and man, I forgot where I read it. But since you said it was not on the man...
