IMO, it is thanks to ASS. At least in my case.
I have a cyber cafi which is still running in 9.1/9.2. Due to the lack
of software available for the Mac platform, I glued together two
programs (MacAdministrator and FMP) with AS, and built a front end for
the client with AS. A clunky solution, but one that works reasonably
well although it can be slow at times.
The advent of ASS has encouraged me to write a standalone program that
(hopefully) avoids the drawbacks of the present system. It has, however
(also), forced (persuaded) me to learn Cocoa (and therefore basic C),
as some functions would not be sufficiently efficient in AS alone. A
two month slog that I trust should prove productive for more than just
one program.
I take this opportunity to thank all the contributors, as this lurker
has been reading the lists and gleaning info and tips that should save
him much time in the future. I have learned a lot. Doubtless I shall be
posting a question or two in the future (eg how can I get the number of
pages a client has printed?).
