Well, I'd love to see multiple character delimiters, both as in {"a", "b"} as in {"and","or"}

Well 2. It is possible to detect that a) a particular script was made before a particular date (release date of SE 2.0 non-beta) and that this script is susceptible to the above issue (breaking), b) signal an appropriate warning when recompiling.

You/Apple always have valid excuse if you fix a bug. It is a bug! Don't let it linger on because of those scripts that 'rely' on it. Or you could phase out the AppleScript text item delimiters, and replace them with something great.
