I have found iDo Script Scheduler to be solid on OS X. I'm able to pass it variables to pass to my scripts. It runs PERL scripts, shell scripts, compiled Applescripts...It keeps track if scripts are missed due to power outage, network time adjustments or daylight savings time. it will hold scripts till competing scripts are finished if necessary. Click a button and I can edit my script in my favorite Script Editor right from iDo. Scripts can be run on a "system idle".

All from within a simple GUI and only $24.95.

I guess you could re-invent the wheel, but why?

I don't work for Sophisticated Circuits, but I am very pleased with their product....
