Precisely how is it recycled? If you were to fake what Script Editor does,
you'd have to have a separate applet defined as a helper application which
would insert text into SE. That's not the same thing. SE can now be a helper
application that responds to the applescript:// url protocol. In the sense
that helper applications have been responding to url protocols for a very
long time, this is not new. But this has nothing whatever to do with the
fact that one can rig script applets to respond to one's own custom
protocols.

Where are they saying it's new in any sense that should make you annoyed?
It's new for them. No one's claiming this is some spectacular innovation.
But how many websites do you know that support Flypaper? The benefits of
something like applescript:// only come after a tipping point has been
reached in the installed base.

I have no idea why this should cause anyone so much grief. It's not like
Apple stretched the engineering resources thin to provide this fairly
trivial feature. Besides, of course Tim thinks working on SE is frippery: He
uses Script Debugger!
