Photoshop question

I'm not a Photoshop user (apart from pedestrian things like making UI buttons and such) so I don't have a lot of call to use it. Consequently I've not got the latest version. But someone wants me to do a scripting job that involves creating thumbnails from larger images. The question for you folks who have the latest version of Photoshop is this. Would I be better off to use my older version with Photoscripter, or use the newer version on the client's Mac? Or should I just use GraphicConverter? I haven't done anything with the new Photoshop so have no idea which solution would be best. I suppose it's worth mentioning that since there are hundreds of these to do speed is definitely to be considered an issue here.
