I'm a big fan of BBEdit, but this is historical revisionism. for a long time
(pre-v6) BBEdit did scripting in a very, very non-object-model sort of way.
Even now, their handling of text is distinctly different to STE, the
standard text suite, and AS's own text handling.

They also introduced other minor "corruptions" to the language, like
insisting on "save ... to ..." rather than "save... in ..." for no good
purpose that I can see.

Sorry, but this is just crap. The dictionary that has appeared in every
version of Word since either v6 or v98 has been a work of almost entire
fiction. I can't off-hand think of a more broken implementation, and I don't
think *any* bugs have been fixed.
