I think I have detected a piece of potential (very minor) confusion here.

John's way is quicker to get the raw codes.

On the other hand julifos' proposition, if I understand correctly, does not really require the raw codes - the script compiles, that's all. If I understand correctly, he just adds "now, if you want to see the raw codes, re-open the script".

There is not any mention in Smile's documentation about jolifos' intuitive way of "compiling portable". Unless I'm missing something, the way he proposes is in many cases superior to what is presented in Smile's documentation.
