ZipIt! is an application, not an addition, but is scriptable and OS X native, with earlier versions available for pre-X users. See <http://www.maczipit.com/> . It was created in the days before StuffIt! supported other archive formats, but even now it has a few ZIP related tricks up its sleeve that StuffIt! doesn't.
