Thanks Emmanuel for pointing that out. It was my error here, not the mailing
list's: the mailing list copes well with (lower) ASCII characters which
don't require the option key. (On US keyboards, all the characters with no
modifier key at all and those with just Shift key are OK.)

So, to restate:

In a faulty mailing list like this one you can make use of the fact that

/=

will compile to the <option>= character in any AppleScript Editor, and will
not be perverted here.
