While this may be true to some extent, I still find it very strange
that AppleScript - devised during a time when C developers where
still strongly encouraged by Apple to use SANE (the Standard Apple
Numerics Environment) - doesn't include something more than the most
basic math functions. And don't forget that some Additions didn't
make the transition to OS X. So I still think that AppleScript as
such leaves a lot to be desired (e.g. access to records: for years
every quarter a discussion arises on this list on how to construct
records on the fly or get record labels as strings, or the nasty 32K
string comparison problem - unsolved for YEARS now).
It really freaks me out, when folks declare that additions, or even
Perl or Python employed via the shell should come to aid. Actually it
not only freaks me out, but makes me want to bang my head
rhythmically on the desk before me.
But I should stop this now. Yet another flaming war on this list
should be avoided. Especially when considering that it's no use
arguing anyway, as certain limitations seem to be defined by powers
above us.
