On 3/12/03 4:21 PM, Dave Stewart at email@hidden didst forever and
always commit to the digital human communication archive:

I am one of those verbose "junk" writers and make no apologies for it. I do
not share the sentiment of somehow I am being "punished."

...I purposely write code that I try to make as easily
understood by the audience that will be reading it
people that have never
seen code in their life, but *have* to make adjustments to it to meet a
deadline in an unexpected situation. It is verbose and heavily commented.

Yay for you, Ken!

I am also the only (regular) AppleScripter at my shop. I find the aforementioned 'verbosity' helpful for the same reason, except so far the main beneficiary has been myself, saying "What was I thinking?".

It always reminds me of one of my all-time favorite novels, Brain Wave by Poul Anderson (1954). The Earth passes out of some kind of electromagnetic damping field and everybody's IQ quadruples instantly. Shortly thereafter, a guy is cruising between the stars in a spaceship of his own design when he passes back into the damping field. He stares in sudden horrified bafflement at the controls which he can no longer understand at all.

I have this feeling quite regularly while scripting -- "Wow, I was smarter than me that day."
