Whilst I agree the two above books are the definitive reference to the
language (I've got both), there is also an excellent book by John Callender
`Perl for Web Site Management' (O'Reilly: 1-56592-647-1) which has a much
gentler learning curve and while primarily aimed at the web market, also
covers enough to get beginners confident enough to get to grips with
further, more complete reading.
