Does anyone know
how to extract every value of a field from every record without
using a repeat loop and without causing FMP to die?

If you can't get an AppleScript solution to work you could fall back on FileMaker's in-built "Copy All Records" script step (and then access the contents of the clipboard from within an AppleScript).
