Um...if 2) is based on 1) then you don't need it. I always use the full path
to the shell command or script, and that doesn't require the AppleScript
application to 'know' where it is...so if I'm running 'whoami' then I
specify "/usr/bin/whoami", and I can run that from anywhere on the system.

Use Get Info, and paste the icon...it should follow the application. The
finder handles aliases, so you'd need to use its dictionary for that.
