Hello Dave,
The JPG to TIFF script from the Apple site compiles fine for me and
works without error in converting any images I've dropped on it.
I did notice that one character seems wrong (at least, on the version
you sent me) at the point where it stops compiling for you. The fourth
word of that line should be "Export..." In words, that's Export
followed by three "and so on" dots produced by typing option semicolon,
the whole thing in quotes.
Here's hoping,
RW

Thanks for the suggestion RW, For some odd reason, even though I
copied that item from Apple's own web page and pasted it into a new
script editor document, it has some flaws that keep it from compiling.
Perhaps this will be obvious to someone, it wasn't obvious to me. I
put a break with a note at the line where it stops compiling.
I already fixed several places where there was a run together with "i"
and with "1". Pulling out the piece I can't fix let me compile the
rest of it, after replacing the problem areas. C'mon Apple, if your
going to put out an example on your pages, please check them first?
I also replaced the TIFF areas with PICT but as it won't even compile
there is no way to test that part of it. (I did that after it wouldn't
compile)
