Thanks,
I will give DragThing a testing.

How does one use a key stroke, F-key, option-(key), to trigger a script under
OS X? With 9 I got used to using OneClick. But I understand that OC is pretty
much toast in the X environment.

There's no single utility for OS X that offers the scope and control of
OneClick.

If it's just keyboard shortcuts you want, I would have recommended the
excellent and script-friendly freeware util, 'Youpi Key' - but this has now
been acquired by Script Software(distributors of CopyPaste), rebranded as
'iKey' (yawn) and is currently beta testing in revised form with a projected
price of 20 bucks. Both flavours of the util run scripts and are also
capable of selecting menu items, clicking buttons, typing, simulating mouse
movements (etc) for you without the need to learn any gnarly UI scripting
tricks. Combined with AppleScript and a whole heap of setting up, its reach
can extend almost as far as OneClick's.

Getting somewhat closer to the OneClick in form is DragThing, which touts
itself as an alternative to the system Dock, but is actually a whole heap
more. I use it to manage all my myriad hot keys, both global and
application-specific, and its multiple docks provide additional tool
palettes for at least a dozen applications, including the Finder. Once it's
set up and optimally configured, there's no limit to the ways that it can
enhance the OS X experience.

Unfortunately, the factory settings are not really suited to this kind of
power-use, and the default layout and colour scheme applied to newly created
docks is so hideous that many people are probably put off before they have a
chance to discover the true power and glory of DragThing. (It even lets you
have tabbed 'pop-up' docks that work like the old pop-up folder windows in
OS 9. How cool is that? I use this feature to 'bookmark' URLs in a way that
makes them accessible from any browser.)

Regards

Nick
