Key combos

Thanks again for all the help, feedback and discussion around my questions regarding scripting. Today, I have another question. How does one use a key stroke, F-key, option-(key), to trigger a script under OS X? With 9 I got used to using OneClick. But I understand that OC is pretty much toast in the X environment. There may be a work around by changing OC's creator code. I think I remember a discussion about doing that long ago. But I am trying to move away from using Classic as an over all strategy. So in X, how is this done? Do I need another macro, like Quickkeys? Or, can this be done, at least marginally, in the system preferences?

Thanks

Dave
