That's uncalled for, cricket. Jon was merely correcting an incorrect

The holier-than-thou attitude of this list hurts people wanting to learn Applescript and everyone who does anything but answer questions and provide real help to people should be ashamed of themselves. I feel no guilt for helping steer the list back to something that provides real value to people wanting to learn Applescript.

This is one of the few lists that I have been able to tolerate membership in over the years. It's one of the best I've ever been on as far as sophistication, respect, helpfulness and general kindness.

It does not contain an unusual amount of holier-than -thou postings. In fact it is one of the most controlled lists I know of. It does, on occasion, break out in 'OH MY GOD. Look at this stupid thing!' And other exclamations of disgust. This is very occasional, and usually occurs when those who have walked through the valley of the shadow of discontinuation, as AppleScript sat in the oubliette at the bottom of One Infinite loop, are exposed to scripting implementations that are less than desirable and which come from the very wellspring of the Platform.

We are afraid. We are hopeful. We see things being done that indicate that those who possess the power to do good or bad with our cherished language do not see things as we do. Big surprise.

Some people on this list are ready to take a posting from an Apple address and think 'gee, how wonderful that they care enough to write!' and some see the opportunity to speak with the Apple representative and express concern, dissatisfaction or even anger. This is all good. Everyone who cares for AppleScript should appreciate that people care about it at all!

You, cricket, have recieved more than your fair share of criticism and vitriol. It is unfair, but you are not forced to be here ( I don't think ) and could leave if it gets to hot. I respect the calm and measured manner in which you have responded to posts here for so long. I don't blame you for getting a bit frustrated and blowing off some steam. Go ahead vent!

But this place is not just for those who 'answer questions and provide real help to people'. This is a community. It has a wide constituency, and they are all welcome and necessary for the survival and betterment of the community.

Complaining takes energy. It takes caring. It takes hope that things will get better. Don't stop us from hoping that one day things will work like we want in your application, or we might go elsewhere.

Thanks again, for caring enough to get pissed.
