IIRC, Scriptable Text Editor was released so that AppleScripters could have
at least one Apple app that was AppleScript-savvy and could demonstrate
AppleScript while providing a somewhat useful app for text manipulation.
Under Mac OS X you'll find that TextEdit fulfills the same role. It's a bit
more sophisticated than the old STE, but it remains as the base text editor
with a reasonable AppleScript dictionary installed on every system.
It's been so long since I've used STE but I'm pretty sure that TextEdit's
dictionary is comparable to STE, and it shouldn't be hard to convert any old
scripts you have.
