writing and retrieving comments from document files?

  • Subject: writing and retrieving comments from document files?

I'd like to use AppleScript (in Mac OS X) to write and read comments of document files. In particular, the comments I write would take the form of "properties lists", e.g.

{myThing: this, myOtherThing: that, myFurtherThing: theother}

After reading such a comment, I'd like to parse it for a particular property's value (numeric or text). Can anyone provide an apt example of how file comments can be accessed and manipulated?

Thanks.
