I'm attempting to write a script to export my Palm Desktop addresses

Since the Export command was obsoleted in 4.1 instead of being made
useful, I can't do this directly with AppleScript.
Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I didn't have time to even update the export
command to work in the new scripting implementation in 4.1, but it
wouldn't have helped you, anyway, as it only exports to
tab-delimited-text. I also took a quick look at providing a way to get
the vCard/vCal text via scripting, but again just didn't have time to
do anything about it.
The general answer is you're going to have to generate your own
vCard/vCal text.
Is this a problem with Palm Desktop or UI Scripting?
I took a quick look at this, but I have no idea what UI Scripting is
telling Palm Desktop or whether there's something PD is doing wrong to
mess things up, unfortunately. If someone who does know can tell me, I
can try to find out if there's something obviously wrong in PD.
My last resort is to move my code from AppleScript into Python or
Objective-C and generate vCal myself, but that'd slow things down by
several orders of magnitude trying to get all my data via Apple
Events...
How much data do you have? In my tests, getting "properties of every
address" was generally pretty fast until you got to several thousand
items.
Please tell me there's another way - since Apple advertises Palm
Desktop support for the iPod you'd think there'd be such a script
written already!
Apple created AppleScript Studio applications to export vCards for the
iPod from Palm Desktop and Entourage, but it seems Apple got rid of
them once they shipped iSync. I can't find the scripts anywhere on
Apple's site. You might try looking around to see if someone has a
copy. Search for "Palm Desktop to iPod" or "Entourage to iPod".
