Dear Quark scripters,
I have been perplexed by the intermittent failure of a folder action script which has been successful over months of daily processing of QuarkXPress documents, running is OS 9.2.2, using a (Translator) desktop printer to handle the file.
Lately, the postscript files have produced plates (and PDFs) where certain TIFF images had the "jaggies." It seems this happens if they're saved with LZW compression (though I'm fairly sure it had done OK with LZW in the past).
If I create the postscript file manually from within the Quark UI, I get good results. It's only when the script makes 'em that the files are less than good.
One obvious clue is that the 'bad' postscript files are substantially smaller that the 'good' postscript files -- usually by a factor of 3 or 4 or even more.
I've put all the properties I can think of into the "print record" setup of the script to get good output: resolution:2540, print quality:normal, data format:clean data.
Can anyone offer any suggestions, insights, or snips?
Thanks so much!
- Dan Feather
