MS has so much market share it's meaningless, and considering the state of
wall street, who cares.

Desktops are always behind, but they're getting there. Apple is oddly enough
doing much better in the server space.

In a corporate environment, OS 9 was totally unacceptable for many reasons.
OS X doesn't have those problems

Jag hasn't been out a year yet, and we're only coming up on the major
purchasing cycle for much of edu. Jag came out too late for 2002.

There are no independent numbers unless you get access to the raw data.
Every survey is spun to prove a point. Look at Apple's mentions in industry
rags that used to ignore them, and the general attitude of IT towards OS X.
That's a better and more reliable indicator than idiot sales numbers that
can literally prove anything you want if you spin them right.
