The problem
If you upgrade to Panther (apparently this is the only case that shows
the problem) and ***you installed the BSD subsystem *** it might not
have been properly installed.
To find out if you did not get the proper installation , on terminal
type "man malloc" . If you are OK you should have the man page
displayed. If the system claims that "no man entries for malloc" your
BSD subsystem was not properly installed.
You should have something of the order of 600 files not found logged
in
your weekly clean up (updating locate database).
To fix the problem
<snip>
After fixing the problem:
I have 25 files missing on updating my locate database.
Known problem. Bug ID# 3470748
Weekly maintenance task: Can't find file: /usr/share/man/man3/
symbolic links
Reviewing the weekly.log, I find that it had a problem finding files in
/usr/share/man/man3/ that had symbolic links. I attempted to find the
files
and get this back: The alias "insert file name with symbolic link"
could
not be opened, because the original item cannot be found. So all the
files
listed in the below weekly.out under whatis database rebuild don't
exist or
the links are hosed.
John,
apparently those files are there because they were originally Unix
files were capital or lowercase letters make a difference.
Someone suggested they were perl man files, the first one I tried was a
python related file.
However, apparently those 25 are the usual suspects, so if you are
missing them, you are alright.

Deivy
