If you go to the script menu in Mail.app you will see an item called "Rule Actions". It has a submenu with information about using scripts to act as rules. I believe that this is what you are looking for. If you don't have it in your script menu you can also find the information in the directory "/Library/Scripts/Mail Scripts/"

I need to learn how to write Applescript to help me filter my mail. I get email from about 10 or 12 email discussion lists on various topics. I don't actually read all the messages, but I try t scan them. The problem is there are just too many and Apple Mail's built in rules just are sophisticated enough. I need to filter based on content as well as subject, from etc.

Does anybody know where I can find some examples of how to do this kind of filtering with Applescript?
