At 01:58p +1100 11/15/2003, Ben Gummer didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:

I want to allow a user to use the OS X font panel to choose a font. When they choose it is displays a dialog saying the font the chose. Can anyone help?

<rant>

Why can't all os x apps provide the same font name display and handling?

Some treat spaces in font names one way, and other treat them another.
(See ProFont showing up as "Pro" in certain cases.)

And the returned name can be in different formats, meaning the font name you see is not the font name you get (see Stone Sans for one example).

</rant>

So you see, even if you had such a selection mechanism, the chosen font name might not work where you send it to.

So if anyone produces a font selection widget for AS, I hope they provide a way to handle these variations... and then we could tell Apple to "do it this way"!
