shown for a menu item. It also has the words "alt", which gives reason to
why people call it alt instead of option.
Yes. Of course that option symbol should be larger than the word
"alt" and so that symbol still represents the true name of the key.
And again, the *only* reason the "alt" is there is for Windows users.
Just like the "num lock" key which is totally useless for Macintosh
software, since our numeric keypad has never been attached to
pgup/pgdn/home/end keys like it was on the IBM PC keyboard.
Perhaps some folks may remember "back in the day" when we had those
clear adhesive labels to stick onto keys to use with Microsoft
software. Maybe Apple decided it would be better to avoid getting the
keys gummed up, and so they started printing Windows legends in small
type. But it's only for MS software, and has nothing to do with real
Macintosh software and nomenclature.
