application file of remote app broken

Here's something weird:
tell application "System Events" of machine "eppc://some.valid.address"
using terms from application "System Events"
application file of first application process
--> alias "Beautyloginwindow.app"
end using terms from
end tell
The alias returned is completely invalid. I also tried 'file' instead of
'application file', as well as "Finder" instead of "System Events", and
they all return the same bogus alias.
Does anyone know of a workaround for this?
