Script editor hangs

Any idea why Script Editor 1.8.3 would hang during "Check Syntax"?

On my PowerBook G3 9.2.2, this script worked fine last night:

tell application "Finder" of machine "eppc://xxx.xxx"
activate
end tell

and I saved it as text.

This morning, pressing "Run" or "Check Syntax" hangs the machine until I Force Quit Script Editor 1.8.3.

I tried bracketing with 'using terms from application "Finder"', and trashing the "AppleScript Preferences" file in the System folder; neither helped.

I tried a couple of other scripts and they seem to work fine.

I didn't change nothing on the target machine (also running 9.2.2) overnight. File Sharing control panel has both "Enable Program Linking clients to connect over TCP/IP" and "Allow user to link to programs on this computer" checked.

What could be the difference? What else could I check?
