It's not perfect but if you select two messages, the one you want to delete and the one below it, your script can move message 1 to the trash and after that message 1 will refer to the next selected message, the one you want to open.
message "", message 0, and message 1 are all the same to Eudora but you can't just say selected message. I wonder why?
