Digging a little deeper, I discovered that the problem specifically occurs
when the Finder has been told to display the dialog. This happened when
running a compiled script from a script editor or with DragThing, and when
deploying the script as an applet. The resulting dialog ignored both manual
mouse-clicks and simulated clicks entered using the Universal Access mouse
keys function. The window could be dragged by its title bar, though.
If I tell a different app (eg, DragThing, System Events) to display the
dialog, it behaves properly, so the problem seems to be Finder-related.
Could you check if the Finder displays 'better dialogs' correctly in your
neck of the woods.
