At 03:59a +0300 10/01/2003, Yannis Angelidis didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:

Can you please help me on this:

I want to access the balance setting of the output sound.
It is in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist.
So, I want to do something like this in the terminal

defaults read -g
"com.apple.soundprefs.Devices.OutputDevices.AppleDBDMAAudioDMAEngine:0.Balan
ce" , witch is totally wrong.

Well aside from the typo in the filename, it looks like you know a lot more than I do. I had no idea you could drill down beyond the filename stem! I don't recall seeing that in man defaults. Where you learn that? (Or am I blind?)

I get domain/default pair of (whatever it was) doesn't exist.
I've tried several combinations with no success.

So, how can I read and write this balance value (it's from -1.000000 to
1.000000)
