The command-option-double click doesn't do any of these things that

Um, not quite.
Action Tool bar present Tool bar collapsed
---------------------------------------------------
Dbl-click Displays folder Opens new window
in same window
Opt-dbl- Closes window & Closes window &
click opens new window opens new window
Cmd-dbl- Opens new window Opens new window
click
I just tested it under Mac OS X 10.3.3. A command-option-double click
does close the old window and open a new one. It does this no matter
if the toolbar is showing or not.
Yes, other options do other things. Also, he didn't need the command
part of the command-option-double click. Just doing option-double
click does the same as doing command-option-double click. However, the
behavior of command-option-double click is to close the old window and
open a new one.
