I tried that (thanks). It doesn't work. The problem is not that they have
other Finders lurking about. It's that the correct Finder - whose dictionary
opens just fine in any script editor - is nevertheless NOT SCRIPTABLE. The
several people who have this problem (confirmed many times with various
one-line scripts that call the Finder) do not want to re-install their their
OS, which is the only technique found so far to fix it. Nor do any of us
know how they got into this situation. It would be nice if there were some
magic bullet to get their Finder working again.
Aside form that, I'd request that System Events be able to get 'application
file id "xxxx", which it can't at the moment.
