changing international text to unicode text

  • Subject: changing international text to unicode text

G'day,

I am a developer of an applescript interface for an application. For historical reasons the document name is returned as international text 'itxt' (The document name is also the same as the file name on disk). I am thinking of switching what is returned to UTF8 (one of the forms of unicode) and the usual form for applescript 'utxt'.

What are the experiences of applescript users to changes like this made by developers. Does it break your scripts? do your scripts get fixed when recompiled? or do you have to make changes to your scripts?

I would like to know what your experiences are before I go and break scripts of customers when they upgrade to the latest version.

Kevin
