Fundamental problem with OS X Applescript?

Hi all,

I've just ran into a nasty Applescript problem with I *think* OS X (10.3.7)
itself. I've been rewriting an OS9 system that generates our website for OS
X. One of the scripts tries to pull 12 fields from 900 records out of
Filemaker at once, using the 'field' method. Of those 12, 5 are repeating
fields with 30 repetitions.

This used to work fine under OS9 with Filemaker 5.5. But under OS X and
filemaker 7: crash. I tried four different methods:

- Load script file from a Filemaker script.
- Put entire script directly in a Filemaker script.
- Save an external applet and run that.

These three methods all crash, either Filemaker or the Applet 'unexpectedly
quits'. The fact that in the last case the Applet crashes instead of
Filemaker leads me to suspect that OS X itself is at fault. Plus, when run
from Scriptmaker, that app crashes also.

And number 4:

- Smile came to the rescue, when running the script from Smile everything
works perfectly. This is obviously what I do know.

So there's a decent workaround, but I would have liked to be able to execute
all the scripts directly from Filemaker.

Anyway: is this a familiar problem? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,
Wim
