In Forth, when we "evaluate an object" it leaves the result on the stack
whether it is a variable or a command.
In Shell, it looks like "evaluation" allows you to assemble shell command
strings from variables containing commands, while "substitution" executes
the command and substitutes it with the result.

Speaking of historic, I was messing around with DOSShell back in the '80s
even though I didn't know what it was. Now I understand it is the
underpinnings of the GUI, and Terminal is a CLI to the shell. 10.2 was my
first exposure to UNIX and it's great!
