In general I try to stay away from extensions to AppleScript. I've found that I can do just about anything I need to through a standard install of Mac OS X and the do shell script command.

That's not to say that I think OSAX are not worth using, some of them are very good and provide a great amount of functionality to AppleScript. It's just that I find it a pain to talk about AppleScripting on this list and then have to explain what OSAX I have loaded and other changes to my scripting environment. It's much easier for me to just keep my scripting environment as current as possible with no OSAX or extra helper applications being used.

I've never heard of the "navchoose" command, is it perhaps from an OSAX?

Yes, and only the greatest OSAX of all: satimage.
