I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out how to get AS to search a file for some delimiters (i.e <!--->2343<!--->) and use the data contained within and replace it.
It is generally advised is to use the free Satimage.osax' Regular expressions and "change" command:
----------------------------- tested!
set s to change "<!--->[0-9]+<!--->" into "<!--->fred<!--->" in s with regexp
