I saw a free scripting tool called Progress Bar, but it only mentions

There are three ways to do it, that I know, in OS X. You can get the 24U
Appearance OSAX (from
http://www.osaxen.com), which is inexpensive (maybe
$20 now?) shareware for a single full license, free to bundle with free
scripts, and can be licensed for shareware scripts. Or Extra Suites, a $10
scripting app which works similarly. Or use Smile, which is free, but
perhaps a little more complicated and would have to be bundled for
distributing.

If not, would it be relatively painless to move my script into AS

AS Studio is never painless. There's quite a learning curve. But yes, it can
be done there.
