This from Paul Berkowitz - dated 29/12/03 4.22 pm:

What's the difference between 'launch' and 'run' in this context? Both work
in most cases, and both seem to do the same thing (ie, launch an app without
bringing it to the front) but some apps seem to prefer one or the other.
