Converting EPS to PDF

I have recently experimented with the shell script "pstopdf"(ex. provided in
Scripts Folder) and I like the possibilities that this opens up for me.
However I was wondering if it is possible to change the pdf settings
(compression or resolution) to achive a smaller PDF file.
