What happens when you include 'as alias'? (Fairly recent addition, maybe AS
1.8.3 or so. i.e. OS 10.2 or install into 10.1.5 or 9.1-9.2.2)

choose application
[with title string] -- the dialog window title
[with prompt string] -- the prompt to appear at the top of the
application chooser dialog box
[multiple selections allowed boolean] -- Allow multiple items to be
selected? (default is false)
[as type class] -- the desired type of result. May be application
(the default) or alias.
