Perl as alternative to Applescript?

  • Subject: Perl as alternative to Applescript?

Does anyone on this list have any experience using Perl to communicate with appleevent-aware apps? And I'm not talking about just firing off osascript commands; I mean sidestepping AS entirely.

From the one day I've spent teaching myself Perl, I feel more comfortable with it than with AS (knowing Perl would be good for other reasons too, but that's beside the point). What would be the chief disadvantages/limitations to using Perl instead of AS for scripting Mac applications?

Thanks,
Chap
