Dock icon Applescript

I think I asked this several months ago, but the search of the archives
does not seem to be working, and I never got an answer worked for me. So I
thought I would try again.

I have an applescript studio application, and I would like to add a badge
to the Dock icon of that application. The info for the badge icon (a
number) will come from the result of running some shell scripts. The data
(the number) can be written to a text file in a known location.

I have looked at the "Tiler" sample application from apple, as it is a
coco sample application for changing the Dock Tile (including a bade), but
I don't read coco well enough to tell what is going on in that app.

Any one have any pointers on how to add a badge to an applescript studio
application's Dock Icon?
