I haven't restarted the computer yet - just wanted to try something...
I still cannot create the folder using this code when run from Script
Editor, but when I run the SAME code from a FileMaker Pro 7 "do AppleScript"
step, it works just fine.

What the heck does this indicate? That Script Editor is bad at sending AS
code?

Well it certainly got confused. Have you tried simply relaunching SE?
